Omega-3 fatty acids
The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA play an integral role in the normal development and functioning of the brain and are also important for vision and general health. Children frequently do not consume sufficient omega-3 fatty acids in their diet, indicating a possible benefit for supplementation.
Omega-3 fatty acids are involved in multiple aspects of brain function including neurotransmission, signal processing, ion channel and enzyme regulation, membrane fluidity, and regulation of gene expression.1,2 DHA in particular is rapidly incorporated into the retina and brain during infancy.
Clinical trials have shown that supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids in children may support brain function, development and cognition.3-7 DHA is important as a structural membrane lipid and is essential for normal brain development. Standards of purity for fish oil supplements The Global Organisation for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) have strict criteria for certification, exceeding the Therapeutic Goods Association standards for fish oil purity, quality and low contamination. All BioCeuticals UltraClean fish oil products meet the rigorous purity standards required for certification by GOED.
Iodine
Iodine is essential for the production of thyroid hormones, which in turn are necessary for normal brain and tissue development.
Iodine levels influence the neurological effects on brain function. Adequate levels are required to support normal mental development
and learning. Iodine supplementation supports cognitive function including information processing, fine motor skills and visual problem solving.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is critical for bone and mineral metabolism in children, with adequate levels contributing to childhood health including normal skeletal function. Vitamin D is also important for immune function.

• The recommended daily amount of vitamin A from all sources is 700mcg retinol equivalents for women and 900mcg retinol equivalents for men.
• When taken in excess of 3000mcg retinol equivalents, vitamin A can cause birth defects. If you are pregnant, or considering becoming pregnant, do not take vitamin A supplements without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
Theoretically, some people who are allergic to seafood such as fish might also be allergic to fish oil supplements. There is no
reliable information showing how likely people with seafood allergy are to have an allergic reaction to fish oil; use cautiously.
Fatty fish, nuts, seeds, and plant oils are all excellent sources of omega-3s that you can easily add to your child’s diet to boost their intake.
Consider supplements if your child doesn’t regularly eat fish or other foods high in omega-3 fatty acids.
