Designed for people living with diabetes, this small sensor provides continuous glucose readings, alerts, and valuable data to support better daily management and long-term outcomes.
As a holistic pharmacist, I often recommend Libre glucose monitoring not only for people managing diabetes, but also for those who suspect insulin resistance, as it offers valuable insight into how individual foods affect blood sugar levels — helping uncover personal triggers, guide smarter food choices, and support long-term metabolic health.

Not for All Patients:
The FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus system is not recommended for individuals who are dehydrated, in shock, critically ill, or receiving high doses of vitamin C or aspirin, as readings may be inaccurate in these situations.
Hypoglycaemia Warnings:
The sensor may not always detect rapidly falling glucose levels in time to trigger an alarm. Always confirm with a finger prick test if symptoms don’t match the reading.
Sensor Placement:
Apply the sensor only to the back of the upper arm. Application to other sites may result in inaccurate readings.
MRI, CT Scan, and X-ray:
Do not wear the sensor during an MRI, CT scan, or high-frequency electrical heat therapy as it may damage the sensor and affect results.
Medication Interference:
High doses of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or salicylates (aspirin) may interfere with sensor readings and cause inaccurate glucose results.
Alarms and Alerts:
Alarms will only work when the sensor is within range and connected to a compatible device or reader. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled and the device is nearby.
Skin Reactions:
Some users may experience skin irritation or allergic reactions at the application site. Discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional if irritation persists or worsens.
Not a Replacement for Medical Advice:
The system is intended to aid in diabetes management and is not a substitute for professional medical care. Treatment decisions should be made in consultation with a healthcare provider.
Use in Children:
The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is approved for use in children aged 4 and above with adult supervision. Ensure an adult assists with sensor application and monitoring.
Check Medication Interactions:
Let your pharmacist know if you take high-dose vitamin C, aspirin, or paracetamol regularly, as these can sometimes affect sensor accuracy. We can help you manage timing or dosing to minimise interference.
Pair with a Health Plan:
Monitoring your glucose is just one part of the picture. We recommend pairing your Libre data with nutrition advice, movement routines, and stress reduction strategies – ask us how we can help with that.
Data Sharing for Better Care:
Many people don’t realise you can share your glucose data with your GP, diabetes nurse, or pharmacist using the LibreLink app and LibreView. We can help set this up in-store or remotely.
Managing Skin Sensitivity:
If you’ve had reactions to medical adhesives before, let us know. We can suggest skin prep wipes or barrier sprays to reduce irritation under the sensor.
Travel Tips:
Travelling? Bring extra sensors, and carry a backup finger-prick kit, especially when flying or changing time zones. Libre 2 sensors can go through airport security but must not be exposed to X-ray or full-body scanners (opt for a manual pat-down).
Know When to Double-Check:
If your symptoms (e.g. shakiness, confusion) don’t match your sensor reading, always confirm with a finger prick test. We can show you how to safely double-check and when it’s most important to do so.
Holistic Glucose Support:
Ask us about natural supplements, dietary changes, and gut health tips that may support better blood sugar control – we believe in working alongside your medical treatments to help you feel your best.
