Quitting smoking is not impossible, especially with the availability of different types of interventions endorsed by the Ministry of Health.

It is normal to relapse back to smoking once you decide to quit, so don’t worry about it if you keep on doing it. It usually takes several attempts to quit before it becomes permanent.

Smoking cessation is tough, but the most important thing about it is your decision to quit smoking. This mindset, coupled with various smoking cessation interventions and encouragement of people around you, should definitely assist you in your journey to be smokefree.

In New Zealand, you can contact Quitline (0800 778 778) to assist you in smoking cessation. They can help you arrange a personalised plan and schedule to make it easier for you to quit. Alternatively, you can talk to your doctor or to one of our pharmacists. First, set a quit date (usually within four weeks), then come to our pharmacy and ask for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

NRTs help relieve the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal once you quit and take the cigarettes out of your life. Henderson Discount Pharmacy supplies NRTs free of charge, and they come in different forms such as gums, lozenges or patches depending on your preference.
