Ear wax is a substance that is normally secreted by the ear canal to help protect the inside of the ear from water or infection. Ear wax normally moves out of the ear canal and falls out, and so regular cleaning is not really necessary. However, in cases where it accumulates inside the ear canal, it can dry out and harden forming a solid plug, which can block the canal and cause minor deafness. Wax removal ear drops can be used to soften and loosen this blockage, and after a few days of continuous use it should fall out.
